Dog Control:
The Town's Dog Control is reponsible
for enforcing the Town's Dog Control Law. The law requires that
all dogs must be on a leash or under voice control when off the
owner's property.
Dogs are prohibited from:
-
Running at large
Engaging in habitual loud howling,
barking, crying or other conduct so as to disturb the comfort
or repose of anyone other than the owner
-
Chase, jump upon or otherwise harass
anyone, habitually chase or run alongside or bark at motor
vehicles
-
Create a nuisance by defecating,
urinating or digging on public property or private property
other than that of its owner, or
-
If a female dog, be off the owner's
premises when in heat.
The Town's Zoning Ordinance restricts
the number of dogs and cats per residence to 5 over six months
of age.
New York State mandated changes
to Dog Licenses
Effective January 15, 2006 New York State Law requires that
a dog license may not be issued for a time period beyond the expiration
date of a dog's rabies certificate.
Dog licenses issued on and after Monday, January 15, 2006 must
not expire after the expiration of the dog's rabies certificate.
If your dog is due for a rabies booster during the next year, you
must have it boostered now in order to have a full year license.
If you choose not to have your dog vaccinated now you will still
need to pay the full fee and you will need to renew your dog licenses
after it has been vaccinated.
Dog owners may choose to renew dog licenses for either a 1, 2 or
3 year period with the rabies certificate being the expiration date.
Pursuant to the New York Public Health Law, county public health
authorities must offer free clinics at least every four months for
the rabies vaccination of dogs, as well as for cats and domesticated
ferrets.
Questions call the Town Clerk at 763-3511.
