Saint Paul's Chapel
Thirty two acres behind St. Paul's Chapel in Vista are open to the community. Two trails, one about 1/2 mile and the other 1/8 mile may be traveled as a loop. They are wide, clear and well marked by reflectors. Scout Peter Ciacci mapped the old trail as part of an Eagle Scout project and built an outdoor shrine dedicated to St. Francis in a clearing at the far end of the trail. There are benches there for a peaceful visit. Mike Harris built a kiosk containing trail maps. The new trail contains a large glacial erratic balanced rock, wetlands and stream.
Old trail - easy; new trail moderate with some wet areas and some rocky footing.
Saint Paul's Chapel is on route 123 (Smith Ridge Road) south of the intersection with Elmwood Road. Park in the church parking lot.
