Mildred E. Grierson Sanctuary/Marian Yarrow Nature
Preserve
The Mildred E. Grierson Sanctuary, Marian Yarrow Nature Preserve and the
Mt. Holly Nature Preserve comprise the Indian Brook Assemblage of over
100 acres owned by the Nature Conservancy. They are important as a wildlife
refuge and as part of the NYC Watershed system. Because of the sensitive
flora and fauna in the area, hikers should keep to the well marked trails.
The five acre pond in the Grierson Sanctuary can be observed from Todd
Road where there is a foot path entrance. These spring fed ponds and wetlands
are a haven for migratory water fowl and other bird life. They are also
populated with fish, reptiles, and turtles. Beyond the ponds the trail
leads up a steep hill to 13 acres of hard wood forests and a stone wall
which marks the boundary of the Marion Yarrow Preserve.
The Marion Yarrow Preserve entrance is on Mt. Holly Road. Next to the
small parking area there is a box containing maps. Loop trails, (yellow,
red, white and blue) lead to Hidden Lake, a twenty foot waterfall and
a wooded marshland.

bird watching territory. Indian Brook runs south along the eastern boundary.
