Safe and accessible streetscapes are a necessary element for flourishing commerce, and healthy lifestyles.  Lewisboro is making a concerted effort to improve conditions for bikes and pedestrians.

Its "Complete Streets" policy establishes the principles of safe access for all users:

The Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan addendum sets out the specific areas of priority attention and proposed approaches:

Goldens Bridge Hamlet center is one of the priority areas.  A survey/workshop was conducted in September 2014 and the results captured in this report should provide a solid basis for "shovel ready" project scoping:

One interesting Goldens Bridge feature its roles as the starting point of the old rail line, the Mahopac Branch. A rail-to-trail project was scoped out at one time, and we hope that it might be resurrected.

Cross River Hamlet is another priority, and the town is partnering with the School District to develop a trail which would provide a competition-grade site for Cross Country meets, and also serve to connect the Michelle Estates community with the commercial center.

This report from the "Safe Routes to School" workshop conducted at John Jay Middle School sets out a number of critical fixes that are needed to enable safe movement around the hamlet center:
