Sustainable Landscaping

The Sustainability Committee has identified landscaping practices as an important environmental focus. This includes both the what, and the how.

According to the American Society of Landscape Architects

"Sustainable landscapes are responsive to the environment, re-generative, and can actively contribute to the development of healthy communities. Sustainable landscapes sequester carbon, clean the air and water, increase energy efficiency, restore habitats, and create value through significant economic, social and, environmental benefits."

As to the "how", we can borrow from the advocacy group Quiet Communities mission statment, which urges that we work to "transition landscape maintenance to low noise, zero emissions practices with positive solutions to protect the health of workers, children, the public and the environment. "
